Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Root Canal Treatment

How can we help you?

We value open communication with patients and encourage questions that help you feel confident in your dental care. Many of our most common questions are listed here, but if you have a specific question or one that requires an immediate answer, we welcome you to get in touch with our Korumburra or Inverloch dental clinics and our team will be happy to help.

At your next visit, our dentists will be happy to explain your procedure and treatment options so that you have all of the information you need to keep your smile healthy and attractive.

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is typically completed in 2-3 visits. After these visits, it is common to experience some tenderness when biting down on the tooth. This tenderness may take up to a week to subside. We recommend that patients chew on the opposite side of the root canal to avoid discomfort and to avoid fracturing the tooth as the tooth is temporarily weakened until the root canal is completed.
In some cases, you may feel that the tooth that is having root canal treatment feels shorter/lower than it was before. In some cases, it is necessary to lower the tooth out of your bite to reduce the risk of the tooth fracturing.
If the temporary filling on the root canal becomes loose or dislodges, do not panic. Contact our Korumburra or Inverloch dental clinics within operating hours. We will need to make an appointment to put a new temporary filling on. Please contact the clinic even if the next appointment for the next stage of the root canal is only a few days away as we can only begin on the next stage of the treatment if the temporary filling is intact on the day of the appointment.
