General Dentistry

At Avid Dental, we strive to provide comprehensive treatment that would be ideal for our patients at any age and as their oral health changes over the course of a lifetime. We never just offer options, but also include valuable information to empower patients to make dental health decisions that give them confidence.

General dentistry is the foundation of our dental practice and is designed to help patients stay healthy and comfortable with conservative treatment options delivered by experienced and gentle dentists.

Keep Smiles Healthy with Preventive Dentistry

Our recommendation for check-ups and cleans every six months affords us the opportunity to detect and treat oral health conditions early, when they are typically less costly and complicated. Since dental disease rarely presents symptoms until well advanced, these routine visits are the only way to detect problems before they become emergencies.

  • Dental exams
  • Cleans
  • Scale and polish
  • Periodontal treatment
  • Fluoride application
  • Fissure sealants
  • Nightguards and athletic mouthguards

Treatment will always be tailored to meet the varying needs of our patients, and with the most conservative approach possible.

Fixing Broken and Diseased Teeth

Few adults will escape the need for at least one filling throughout their lifetimes, and many patients will break or damage a tooth, requiring repairs. Restorative dentistry restores both the appearance and health of teeth with the intention of preventing tooth loss.

  • Fillings – seal teeth after decay
  • Bonding – reshapes chipped or worn teeth
  • Veneers – cover the front of teeth for aesthetics and function
  • Crowns – reinforce broken, decayed or root canal teeth
  • Bridges – fill gaps from missing teeth
  • Implants – replace the entire tooth after an extraction

Making Smiles Beautiful

Restorative dentistry repairs teeth and can also improve the appearance of teeth. Using a combination of restorative options and other smile-enhancing treatments, such as teeth whitening and orthodontics, modern cosmetic dentistry gives patients their ideal smile. Feeling confident in how your teeth look can have a positive impact on every facet of life.

Healthy Gums for a Healthy Body

Recent research links gum disease to nearly every organ and system in the body. By taking a proactive approach with customised cleans, we help patients avoid bleeding, painful gums caused by infection.

Gum disease is linked to:

  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Low birth weight and premature births
  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Certain cancer types
  • Respiratory illnesses (chronic bronchitis, COPD)
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Rheumatoid arthritis

Because gum disease can develop due to changes in medical health or hormonal fluctuations caused by pregnancy, we remain diligent and evaluate the gums routinely to protect your smile and overall health.

We Welcome You to Get in Touch

We have two privately owned dental practices in Korumburra and Inverloch to meet the needs of families in our community. If you want a clinical dental team to present your options and helpful information without the pressure you might find elsewhere, we welcome you to get in touch. Let’s work together toward healthy smiles for the whole family.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our team members are very fond of children as many of us have little ones (some a little taller than others) of our own. We are committed to providing exceptional paediatric dentistry to little ones of any age and making their experience an enjoyable and interactive experience that will support a healthy attitude toward caring for their smiles.

Whether it is time for your child’s first dental visit, or you are searching for a family dentist to care for all of your children’s smiles in the Korumburra or Inverloch communities, we welcome you to contact us.

Children are naturally curious and have questions about their smiles. We will demonstrate proper hygiene to empower kids to look after their own smiles at home and also maintain open communication with parents regarding their child’s development and growth.

When it comes to procedures, such as fillings, we provide comfortable procedures and work at your child’s pace without forcing them to go beyond their limited attention spans.

By ensuring your child has adequate paediatric dental care from a caring and compassionate team, you are promoting a healthy smile for a lifetime. Children with adequate dentistry in their early years often have fewer oral health challenges as adults.

Contact Avid Dental to arrange your child’s paediatric dental visit.

It is common to experience swelling, bleeding and discomfort after dental extractions, however, if you are experiencing the following conditions you should contact your dentist immediately:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Feverish
  • Profound bleeding

If you are unable to contact the dentist, please contact the emergency department at your local hospital.

Some bleeding is healthy, this includes blood in the saliva when spitting and dried blood stains on the pillow. This normally ceases within two to three days. Patients on blood thinners, however, may take a more extended period of time before recovery.

Bleeding

If the bleeding hasn’t stopped, do not panic. This is normal. But it can be managed. You have been provided with a packet of sterile gauze. With clean hands, place the sterile gauze on the site of the wound and apply pressure as you bite down. If you have run out of sterile gauze, a moist tea bag is also practical.

Swelling

The swelling typically reaches its maximum after two to three days. You can minimise the swelling by applying pressure and a cold pack to the affected area of the face up to 48 hours after the procedure. Apply the cold pack for 10 minutes and off for 10 minutes and repeat.

After several days when the bleeding has stopped, you may apply a heat pack for 20 minutes and off for 10 minutes. This will accelerate the healing process and reduce the swelling. Only use a heat pack that is comfortable to touch. Excessively hot heat packs may result in burns. Do not use a heat pack if the wound is still bleeding as this may increase the severity of the bleeding.

Discomfort

Avoid taking aspirin unless prescribed by your doctor. Only use paracetamol if you do not suffer from paracetamol allergy. If ineffective, please contact us during our operating hours for advice.

After 24 hours (48 hours for patients on blood thinners), mix a teaspoon of salt to a small glass of warm water and use as a mouth rinse. Be very gentle when swooshing the mouth rinse to avoid aggravating the blood clot. This accelerates the healing process and provides some pain relief.
